MCM Field Trip

by Barbara Schwab

It was our recent pleasure to visit a good friend’s beautiful home and document his fabulous collection of mid century modern furniture in Rydal Pennsylvania.

He has played a major part in our becoming MCM furniture collectors. We met over four Danish modern kitchen chairs he had listed on Craigslist, which has led to many more furniture pieces coming to live at our house. He knows our weaknesses.

He is a young man who started with his father in the rug business, and was attracted to mid century modern pieces at estate sales and caught the MCM bug early. He has a great talent as an abstract expressionist painter. He is out finding, buying, and selling beautiful pieces, keeping those special ones for himself and this has led to a great collection and a successful business. He has a great eye and knowledge that is evidenced in these pictures of his and mid century modern home.

This beautiful home in Rydal has the midcentury quality of bringing the outside in. The whole back opens up onto flagstone patios that include a Koi pond. The living part of the home wraps around the center core of the kitchen.
