In the new MidMod warehouse

This is the first “in the New MidMod warehouse blog“ for almost 6 months. Things in our lives have been pretty crazy. Since the last blog publication, our son and his lovely bride have moved in with us and are expecting a daughter at the end of the year. Now that’s special! We have also moved our warehouse closer to Jenkintown, where we live, to Willow Grove PA, 15 minutes from our house. The photo on the banner of this blog is of the new warehouse.

Of the five pieces in the midmod warehouse we are going to present today, two are by Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard, one by Folke Ohlsson and the last pair are by Jens Risom.

The first chair In the midmod warehouse is a teak cane back easy chair by Hvidt and Molgaard. The cane back has been seamlessly repaired and the cushion is new foam covered with brown leather. This chair is usually found with an upholstered back with the cane back being found much less frequently. As an aside, this chair can be found in Don Draper’s office on “Mad Men.”

The second Hvidt and Molgaard chair in the MidMod warehouse is a danish cord seated armchair. The Danish cord is new and very beautifully done. The finish is original but we gave it a little TLC in the shop and it looks aces! We had originally thought that it was from a dining room set but we have since heard that it was part of a desk set and much rarer than the one from the dining room set. If you have anything more definitive about this chair, please let us know.

The third chair is a model 72-C by Folke Ohlsson for Dux. This chair is exceptionally wide and comfortable. I don’t think it is rare but it is not often seen. It is low and very sculptural. It is in very good condition but we will buff it up and make it look like a million bucks!

The last pair are examples of Jens Risom’s “Playboy Chair” from the Playboy article of 1961 that identified the world class American designers of the midcentury and their iconic chair designs.

Jens Risom far right leaning on the “Playboy” chair. Moving left the designers are Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, Eero Sarrinen, Eduard Wormley and George Nelson.
