Into the MidMod decor Warehouse

by George Schwab

This space is my own little fife where I channel my inner cabinetmaker.

I’ve always been fascinated by warehouses. As a child, I grew up across the street from an Anaconda Copper and Brass warehouse and I was always over there, usually being chased off by the workers when I wasn’t collecting their soda bottles from lunch to redeem the deposit.

MidMod décor has two main spaces where we store and display our Mid Century Modern and Danish Modern furniture, lamps and accessories, our home, in Jenkintown PA and our warehouse in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, not far from where I grew up. Today we’ll talk about the warehouse.

Our warehouse space is in a huge building that in a previous incarnation was a munitions factory. We have about 1000 sq ft of temperature controlled space on the second floor almost directly opposite the location of the elevator doors that accesses the loading dock on the first floor.

The area is split into two rooms. The first room contains the office, the MCM lamps and accessories as well as the MCM and Danish Modern furniture that is in the process of being repaired, refinished or needs TLC. Between the office and the furniture is a seating area with a daybed by Hans Wegner and another sofa waiting for a final fix. This seating area is anchored by a lovely MCM geometric kilim, 8” x 10” rug.

The second space is twice as large as the first and is entered by way of a 12 foot cased opening. Immediately on the right is the work area where we administer the TLC. This space is my own little fife where I channel my inner cabinetmaker. Farther down the right and completing the space is the photo area where Barbara and Chris work their magic.

The left side of the entire space is a 4’ high and 4’ wide plywood shelf covered with indoor and outdoor carpeting. This built-in holds our mid-size MCM and Danish Modern furniture: Tables, chairs, lounges of all varieties. The center of the entire space holds the larger pieces by Boge Mogensen, Kofod Larsen, Hans Wegner and a few Anonymous pieces (we’re going to have to talk about Anonymous one of these days.)

We have amenities (a coffee pot) that have helped us to settle in. We are there three days a week now and it seems like that schedule will continue for the foreseeable future. Make an appointment and visit us! info@midmod-decor.com
